James installs 30,000-cycle, powder-coated springs from American Spring and Service Spring. Each open-and-close is one cycle, so how long they last depends on how often you use your door — but they are built to last much longer than standard cycle springs and the powder coating helps resist rust and friction.

We strongly recommend against it. Garage door springs are under high tension and can cause serious injury if they release unexpectedly. If your door suddenly feels very heavy or won’t open, stop using it and call a licensed professional.

Usually the safety sensors near the floor are blocked, dirty, or out of alignment. Check that nothing is in the way, gently wipe the sensor lenses, and make sure both sensors face each other. If the door still won’t close, call James and he can help diagnose it.

With the door fully closed, pull the red emergency release cord to disconnect the door from the opener, then lift the door by hand. If the door feels very heavy, a spring may be broken — don’t force it; call for help.
